Finding Starbucks in Backcountry Japan
I'll be trekking through an old trail that connected Kyoto to Tokyo through the mountains (dales and valleys) back in the day when men were men and women knew their places (oops slip of the tongue). The original trail was built in the 8th century and became a major thoroughfare in the 17th century. There were 69 "stations" or towns that serviced the travelers along this 310 mile trip. Some of the towns are now preserved to their 200 years old luster...rustic but will I find a Starbucks ? Maybe an old farm house converted or a kiosk or at least a vending machine huh ? We shall see.
The logistics of the trip is a no brainer. Fly to Narita, train to Nagoya, spend three days sightseeing, then hook up with the tour group at the Nagoya train station on the 13th. Initially I was the only one signed up for that week but recently I was notified that someone else also came on board. There goes my private guided tour. Hope whoever signed up knows I'm a jerk. I don't obviously think that but people tell me that...go figure.
So here I sit in front of my computer gathering my thoughts when I should be gathering my stuff for the trip but I like to do things in the very last minute possible. Need that pressure. I think I'll go get a Starbucks coffee. Or maybe I should pick up the mess in my room so that I may be able to find my passport. Hmmm I wonder where I put that damn thing. When did I use it last ? I'm sure it'll turn up in time.
